"Lost In the Kitchen" was written by Dave Barry. Barry introduces his argument by creating a visual: two men in the kitchen on Thanksgiving day, clueless. Instantaneously, Barry has captured the attention of his readers by utilizing a humorous potential scenario. He then goes on to discuss the role of man in the kitchen, or more so, the lack of authority they have within the kitchen. In his usage of colloquial language, Barry writes a piece that is easy to read, but succeeds in conveying his purpose.
I enjoyed this article because in history, we're currently learning about the Civil Rights Movement and the other movements that sparked as result of this, one of those being womens rights. Women were believed to deserve no role other than that of wife, and housewife. She was to clean the house, raise the children, and, most similarly to this article, provide meals. It was interesting to me that an issue that arose in the 1970's is still evident in society today (2004, to be exact, the publish date of this article). I suppose it left me with one question- will a woman's role in society ever really change?
